Limited company invoice
A limited company invoices as a separate legal entity. Use the registered company name, keep invoice numbers sequential, and show VAT details only if the company is VAT registered.
What to include
- The registered company name and registered office address
- Company number where relevant (for example, on formal business documents)
- The customer's legal name and address
- A unique sequential invoice number and the invoice date
- Description, quantity and unit price of the supply
- VAT breakdown and VAT number if VAT registered
- Payment terms and due date
Company name rules
Companies must use their registered name on business correspondence and invoices. If you trade under a different name, make sure the registered company name is also shown. Check Companies House guidance for the exact requirements.
VAT and corporation tax are different
VAT is charged on VATable supplies if the company is VAT registered. Corporation tax is paid on company profits. An invoice is not a corporation tax document, but it supports your records.
