Receipt generator
A receipt confirms that a payment has been received. Use this generator for deposits, part-payments and one-off sales when a full invoice is not needed.
What a receipt should include
- The date the payment was received
- Who paid and who received the payment
- The amount and currency
- What the payment was for (invoice number, project or description)
- Your business details and VAT number if applicable
Receipt vs invoice
An invoice requests payment; a receipt confirms it. For VAT purposes, the VAT invoice is usually the key document, so a receipt does not replace a VAT invoice. Keep both where relevant.

Frequently asked questions
Is a receipt the same as an invoice?
No. An invoice asks for payment and supports VAT accounting. A receipt confirms that payment has been made. If you are VAT registered, you still need to issue a VAT invoice where required.
Can I use this for a deposit?
Yes. Add the project or order reference and note that it is a deposit or part-payment. Keep the receipt with your records.
